Argentina — Marriage

The route is real and it is open to you. It just has not started yet, and there are useful things to do in the meantime.
Argentina's spousal route runs from the marriage. Being engaged, or living together with plans, does not begin it — so nothing can be filed until the wedding has happened and is recognised in Argentina.
What is worth doing now rather than after. If you marry abroad, the marriage will need legalisation or apostille and registration in Argentina before it does any work for you, and that process is slower than the wedding. Deciding where to marry can matter: a wedding in Argentina is registered there by definition and skips a step entirely. And your spouse-to-be should have their Argentine documents in order — birth certificate and DNI — because every route through them will ask for those.
Then the shape of it: marriage gives you a family basis for a residency permit, and Argentine citizenship follows two years of continuous legal residence. Two years is short by international standards, and Argentina has recognised same-sex marriage since 2010.
Here is the part we will not pretend to know. Until May 2025 a spouse of an Argentine could apply to a federal judge with no minimum residency at all — commonly twelve to eighteen months from the wedding, and one of the fastest routes in the hemisphere. A decree removed it that month. In June 2026 a court annulled that decree outright, which in principle brings the old fast track back, and nothing published since says which regime spouses are actually being held to. It may go further on appeal. We will know more about that by the time it is relevant to you, which is one advantage of asking early.
