Own a Piece of the World. Discover Where Golden Visas Can Take You.
A Golden Visa buys you residency. A CBI program buys you a passport.
Golden Visa (residency by investment), the pathway this page covers, grants a renewable residency permit in exchange for an investment. You gain the right to live in (and often travel visa-free around) the country immediately. Citizenship, if it comes, arrives later, through ordinary naturalization rules.
Citizenship by Investment (CBI) is a different pathway Second Pass also evaluates: a small number of countries, mostly Caribbean, issue a passport directly, with no residency requirement at all. It's faster and more expensive per pathway, and it's not what "Golden Visa" refers to.
Three stages, most of a decade
The shape is consistent; the specifics (investment size, residency days required, years to naturalization) are set country by country and can change without much notice.
01
Make a qualifying investment
Real estate, a government fund, a business, or (in a few countries) a direct donation. The qualifying amount and vehicle vary by country.
02
Hold residency
The investment converts to a renewable residency permit. Minimum physical-presence requirements range from none to several months a year.
03
Naturalize, where the law allows
After a set number of years as a resident, some countries' Golden Visa holders become eligible to naturalize as full citizens.
