Argentine law does recognise the *unión convivencial* — an unmarried partnership, registrable in Argentina — as a legal relationship. What is less clear is how far it carries for immigration purposes. The family-reunification provisions are written primarily around spouses, and while registered partners are in practice often accepted, we could not find published guidance settling it, and consular and immigration practice on this varies more than it should.
Two things would firm it up considerably: whether your partnership is formally registered, and where. A registered *unión convivencial* in Argentina is a much stronger document than a foreign cohabitation certificate, and a foreign registered partnership sits somewhere in between depending on the country.
The blunt practical point: marriage removes the question. If marrying is something you would consider anyway, it converts an uncertain route into a clear one, and Argentina has recognised same-sex marriage since 2010, so that route is open regardless of the couple.
And whichever way that goes, the citizenship itself comes from two years of continuous legal residence — the relationship gets you the residency permit, not the passport.
