You are in the best position of anyone who reaches this page.
Being married to an Argentine citizen and already living in Argentina means the settled part of the law is enough for you on its own. Marriage to an Argentine gives you a family basis for a residency permit, and Argentine citizenship needs two years of continuous legal residence. You do not need the contested shortcut to get there — you just need the clock to run.
The one thing to check is what status you actually hold, because only some kinds count. A temporary or permanent residency permit accrues the two years. A *precaria* — the certificate you hold while an application is processed — does not, and neither does a tourist entry. If you are on one of those, the first job is converting to a proper permit on the basis of the marriage, and the two years run from that grant.
Here is the part we will not pretend to know. Until May 2025 a spouse of an Argentine could apply to a federal judge with no minimum residency at all — commonly twelve to eighteen months from the wedding, and one of the fastest routes in the hemisphere. A decree removed it that month. In June 2026 a court annulled that decree outright, which in principle brings the old fast track back, and nothing published since says which regime spouses are actually being held to. It may go further on appeal. For you this matters less than for most people, because you are on the residence route anyway. If the fast track turns out to be alive, you may be able to move sooner than two years, which would be a bonus rather than the plan.
Tell us what status you are on now, when you got it, and your marriage date, and we will tell you the earliest date you could file and whether the shortcut is worth testing in your case.
