Being in Argentina is not the same as being resident there, and for this route only one of them counts.
Argentina's two years have to be held on a temporary or permanent residency permit. Time on a *precaria* — the certificate you hold while an application is processed — does not count toward it, and neither does time as a tourist or on the digital nomad permit, which is a transitory status by design. Whichever of those you are on, the two-year clock has not started.
This is fixable, and it is usually the whole job. The question is which residency category you can qualify for: employment with an Argentine employer, investment, passive income, family, or nationality of a South American country, which is much the simplest if it applies to you. Once one of those is granted, the clock starts and runs for two years.
If you are already waiting on a residency decision, the good news is that the grant is what matters and the wait is not wasted — but the two years run from the grant, not from when you arrived.
