Retirement in Brazil

Your result

Possible

Not yet, but close — and there are things worth doing before rather than after the pension starts.

The route needs a pension actually in payment: the application shows the pension and the capacity to transfer US$2,000 or more a month to Brazil, so it cannot be made on a pension that has been calculated but not yet started. Once it is in payment, the initial residence runs up to two years.

Three things to settle in the meantime. Whether the pension will reach US$2,000 a month by itself, or whether other regular income will need to make up the figure — which the rule allows. Whether your pension can actually be paid to someone resident in Brazil, since some schemes restrict payment abroad and that is a question for the paying scheme, not for Brazil. And whether anyone is coming with you, because this route has no dependant allowance and a spouse or children apply separately under family reunion.

If you want to be in Brazil before the pension starts, the digital nomad route asks for US$1,500 a month from foreign clients, which sometimes suits people winding down consultancy work.

Tell us when the pension starts, what it will pay, and who is coming with you, and we will tell you what to line up now and when to file.
