A job offer is what this route runs on, and the useful thing to know is that the application is mostly not yours to make.
Where the work carries an employment relationship under Brazilian labour law, the petition for prior residence is filed by the company in Brazil, not by you. What is assessed is the fit between your qualifications and professional experience and the job you would be doing — so the employer's description of the role and your own documented background have to line up. It is filed through the immigration ministry's online system, and once approved you collect the visa at a consulate and register with the federal police after arriving.
What this means in practice is that the employer's willingness to do the paperwork is the real variable. A company that has done it before will find it routine; one that has not will need persuading that it is manageable, and that is often where offers stall.
Two things worth knowing. Since a 2025 change, a worker can move where the activity is performed within the same company or economic group by notifying the ministry, rather than needing a fresh permit. And your diplomas and experience letters will generally need apostilles and sworn translations, which takes longer than people plan for.
On citizenship: residence is what the naturalisation clock runs on. Four years of it in the ordinary case, or one year if you marry or partner a Brazilian, have a Brazilian child, or hold the nationality of a Portuguese-speaking country.
Tell us what the role is, whether the employer has sponsored anyone before, and what qualifications you hold, and we will tell you what the company has to file and what you need ready.
