Brazil and Japan formalised a working holiday programme by exchange of diplomatic notes on 24 July 2026, and it comes into force on 1 December 2026. So there is nothing to apply for today, and there will be from that date.
What is settled and what is not. The basic terms are agreed: the programme is for people aged 18 to 30, for a stay of up to a year, with the usual requirements of a valid passport, a return ticket or the funds for one, means of support for the initial period, health cover and a clean record. What has not been published is the operational detail — the exact document list and the size of the first year's quota — which is expected closer to the start date. Quotas matter on new programmes, because first-year allocations are often small and taken quickly.
If you cannot wait, the other Brazilian routes do not depend on nationality in this way. Remote work for a foreign employer needs US$1,500 a month or US$18,000 in savings. A job offer from a Brazilian employer works at any age. Study is its own route.
