This route depends entirely on the sponsor, and without a spouse or partner who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident there is nobody to make the application. Sponsorship is the sponsor's application as much as yours — they apply to sponsor, you apply for permanent residence, and the two are assessed together.
It is worth being clear about what this route never was, because the expectation is widespread and wrong: marrying a Canadian does not make anyone Canadian, and it does not shorten the wait for citizenship by a single day. What it does is open a route to permanent residence. Without a qualifying sponsor there is no such route.
What happens next: if permanent residence in Canada is the goal, the economic routes are the ones to look at — Express Entry and the provincial nominee programs, which assess work experience, qualifications, language and age, and which account for most of Canada's intake.
