Marriage in Egypt

The Verdict: Not eligible

Egypt does not recognise same-sex marriage, so the marriage gives no route to nationality or residence. Our golden visa and skilled migration quizzes cover routes that do not depend on your relationship.

Article 7 of the Egyptian Nationality Law applies only to a foreign wife of an Egyptian man, and Article 25 requires the marriage to be proved by an official Egyptian document.

Egyptian authorities prosecute consensual same-sex relations under the 1961 law on debauchery, and human rights organisations report prison sentences. Take independent advice before relying on the relationship in any dealings with the Egyptian authorities.
