The Legion is the only part of France's armed forces open to foreign nationals, and its limit has no exceptions. The other French service schemes, including the new volunteer national service, are for French citizens only.
Work or business permits, a family route through a French spouse, parent or grandparent, and the visitor card for people living on their own means all remain open.
