Military & National Service in France

In practice the French Foreign Legion enlists only men as legionnaires, so this route is closed to you. Look at the work, family and visitor routes in our other France quizzes.

That is the Legion's practice rather than something written into the law, and its recruitment pages make no provision for women. Women serve in the Legion only as French officers or NCOs, which requires French nationality.

The rest of France's armed forces and the national service schemes are open only to French citizens.
