Reacquiring Lost Citizenship in France

The Verdict: Not eligible

Reacquisition is only for people who were once French themselves. If a parent or grandparent was French, take our citizenship by descent quiz instead.

Article 24 of the Civil Code limits reintegration to people who can show they held French nationality.

The descent question is whether your parent was still French when you were born, and whether the 50-year rule for families long settled abroad stops the claim. If it does and you have ties with France, the descent quiz will bring you back here.
