Retirement in France

The Verdict: Need More Info

As a remote worker you would use the visitor card, and it turns on your income reaching €1,477.93 a month. Our digital nomad quiz checks that and covers the route in detail.

The visitor card requires an undertaking not to work in France. In June 2026, though, the Interior Ministry said in a published answer that someone working remotely for an employer abroad, paid and taxed at home, counts as not working in France and should apply for that card.

The open point is tax. Living in France for most of the year usually makes you a French tax resident, and the tax administration treats work physically done in France as French activity. Take tax advice before you move.
