Historical Displacement in Germany

The Verdict: Not eligible

Without persecution between 1933 and 1945 these restoration routes do not apply. If an ancestor held German citizenship, take the Germany Citizenship by Descent quiz instead.

Article 116(2) of the Basic Law and Section 15 of the Nationality Act repair the consequences of persecution on political, racial or religious grounds between 30 January 1933 and 8 May 1945. A German family connection alone does not bring you within them.

Before you rule it out: political persecution covers Social Democrats, Communists, trade unionists and others who fled for their politics. Departures between 1933 and 1939 that a family remembers as economic were often nothing of the kind.

The ordinary descent route also has no generational limit, but each ancestor must still have held German citizenship when their child in your line was born.
