Military & National Service in Greece

Greek military service leads to nationality only for people of Greek origin, so it is closed to you. Look at our Naturalization quiz, and at Skilled Migration, Digital Nomad or Retirement for getting to Greece.

Every limb of article 4 of the Citizenship Code, including volunteering in wartime and promotion to officer, requires Greek origin. Greece does not recruit foreign nationals generally and has no foreign legion.

The ordinary route is naturalisation after seven continuous years of lawful residence in Greece, or three for EU citizens and for a spouse of a Greek citizen with a child together, plus the PEGP exam in Greek language and civics.
