The Verdict: Need More Info
Find out whether the Greek consulate will treat your income as passive income from abroad. Take two years of bank statements, tax returns and the documents behind each income source, and ask them before you apply.
The income must be at least €3,500 net a month, plus 20% for a partner and 15% per child, and it must be passive and from abroad. Pensions, rent, dividends and interest clearly count. Earned income does not, and income from Greek assets is not from abroad.
The unclear cases are pension drawdown rather than an annuity, trust or family company distributions, profits from a business you own but do not run, and actively managed rentals. A large bank balance is a stock, not a monthly income.
If the income is earned, our Digital Nomad quiz applies. If it falls short, the golden visa tests capital instead, in our Golden Visa quiz.
