Retirement in Greece

The Verdict: Unlikely

Below €3,500 a month the retirement permit is out of reach, because the threshold is fixed. If you have capital rather than income, look at our Golden Visa quiz; if you have Greek ancestry, check our Citizenship by Descent quiz first.

The financially independent person permit needs at least €3,500 net a month of passive income from abroad, plus 20% for a partner and 15% per child. There is no lower tier and no discretion, and capital cannot stand in for income.

The digital nomad permit needs the same €3,500, from earned income, so it is no easier.

The golden visa has no income test; the cheapest entry is €250,000 to convert a non-residential building to housing or restore a listed building.

A descent claim has no income test at all and gives citizenship rather than a permit.
