Retirement in Ireland

The Verdict: Unlikely

Below €50,000 a year per person, a Stamp 0 retirement application is unlikely to succeed. Recount per person, and consider turning capital into pension or annuity income before applying.

The figure is the immigration service's published expectation for a person of independent means. The permission rests on your supporting yourself indefinitely without State help, so it is not negotiated down.

It is an individual figure and no couples figure is published, so do not compare a joint income with it. It measures income, not wealth: capital in investments is not normally counted, so converting some into pension or annuity income is what would change the answer.

If the shortfall is real, Ireland has no lower-income residence route. What remains is descent, through a parent or grandparent born on the island of Ireland, or residence through work.
