The Verdict: Need More Info
Japan has ordinary work statuses for artists, performers and athletes, but no talent route judged on reputation. It turns on having a contract or engagement in Japan that supports you.
The Artist status covers paid work in music, fine art, literature and similar fields. The Entertainer status covers performance and sport and is examined closely on the contract and promoter. Skilled Labour covers practical skills such as sports coaching.
Run your case through the points table too. The highly skilled points system scores academic background, experience, income and age, with bonuses for Japanese ability, a Japanese degree, research, patents, national qualifications and priority fields. At 70 points you get a five-year stay, spouse work rights and permanent residence after three years; at 80, after one. Artistic reputation scores nothing, but strong income and experience sometimes clear it.
