The Verdict: Clear Path
You can apply for J-Find, a status giving up to two years in Japan to job-hunt or prepare a business. Confirm your university is top 100 in two of the three rankings, then apply with about ¥200,000 in funds.
J-Find is a Designated Activities status for graduates within five years of a university ranked in the top 100 of at least two of QS, Times Higher Education and ARWU. It runs one year, extendable by one more, and allows part-time work.
It leads to an ordinary work status with a job offer, or to Business Manager if you build a company. Since 16 October 2025 the Business Manager status needs ¥30 million in capital, at least one full-time employee who is Japanese or otherwise settled (permanent resident, spouse or child of a Japanese national, long-term resident), three years of management or CxO experience or a relevant master's degree, the ability to run the business in Japanese at about B2, and a business plan confirmed by a professional.
