Marriage in Mexico

The Verdict: Not eligible

The marriage route needs two years living together in Mexico, so it is not open while you live abroad. As the spouse of a Mexican you can get Mexican residence, and the clock starts when you move.

There is no way to apply from abroad on an intention to move. The only exception is a Mexican spouse posted abroad by the Mexican government, which covers official postings, not an ordinary job abroad.

Residence as the spouse of a Mexican is applied for at a Mexican consulate before you travel. Once you live together in Mexico, two years later you can apply for nationality.

Two checks worth making now. Your children with your Mexican spouse are Mexican through them, wherever they were born, and registering them is a consular formality. And if anyone in your own direct line was born in Mexico, you may be Mexican already.
