The Verdict: Need More Info
A work permit needs an employer, so a founder goes through the investor route instead. Its business-activity basis has no minimum amount; the investment quiz covers it.
Mexico has no general self-employment permission. The investor route accepts capital above 45,850 days of UMA, roughly 5.2 million pesos, or evidence of real business activity: contracts, invoices, business plans, licences, or a social security certificate showing three employees.
The investor visa does not authorise paid work in Mexico. To pay yourself a Mexican salary, your company must register as an employer with the immigration institute (INM) and request a work-authorised residence for you. Many founders keep their income foreign and use economic solvency instead.
