When you were born, was one of your parents a New Zealand citizen?
Only a parent counts; a grandparent gives no claim. A parent born in New Zealand, the Cook Islands, Niue or Tokelau before 2006 is a citizen, and so is a parent born abroad to a New Zealand parent, even if they never registered. Check their birth or citizenship certificate against your birth date; Internal Affairs can search its records.
