Golden Visa & Citizenship by Investment in New Zealand

Your route is still open: existing holders can renew the Entrepreneur Work Visa and apply for the Entrepreneur Resident Visa. Check your visa expiry date and see which residence test you are closer to meeting.

The Entrepreneur Work Visa closed to new applications on 27 August 2025, but not for people already on it, and the Entrepreneur Resident Visa remains open.

There are two ways to residence. Either you have been self-employed in your New Zealand business for at least two years, or for at least six months while holding a current work visa, having invested NZ$500,000 of capital and created at least three full-time jobs for New Zealand citizens or residents.

The risk is letting the work visa lapse. If neither test is reachable before it expires, apply to renew first.

Citizenship then needs five years holding residence, 1,350 days in New Zealand and at least 240 in each year.
