The Verdict: Need More Info
Your next target is permanent status, not citizenship, because temporary permits do not start the three-year count. Work out whether you will reach permanent residence or the EU long-term resident permit first, and start on B1 Polish now.
Article 30 counts residence held on a permanent residence permit, an EU long-term resident permit or a permanent right of residence. Years on renewed temporary permits leave the three-year count at zero.
Four years on a single residence and work permit with stable income leads to permanent residence. Five years of continuous legal residence leads to the EU long-term resident permit, which also needs health insurance and B1 Polish. Article 30 treats the two alike.
Your temporary years are not wasted. The ten-year limb, article 30(1)(6), counts all continuous legal residence, including temporary permits, once you hold a permanent status, with income and housing.
Polish at B1 can be proved only by the state certificate, a school-leaving certificate from a school in Poland, or one from a school abroad that taught in Polish. Since 1 July 2025 a post-secondary (szkoła policealna) certificate does not count, and the transitional window for older ones closed on 30 June 2026.
