The Verdict: Need More Info
Capital alone does not meet the D7 test, which needs regular income. Turn part of it into a documented monthly payment, and build up several months of statements before you apply.
The test is regular passive income at the minimum wage, €920 a month for one person in 2026. Many consulates also want savings as a buffer on top, but a balance in a deposit account is not an income stream, however large it is.
What works is capital producing a recurring, documented payment: an annuity, an income fund, regular dividends, or rent from a let property. Portugal's threshold is low, so this usually takes a modest share of what you hold.
If your capital is large, Portugal's golden visa is assessed on the investment rather than on income, from €500,000 into a qualifying fund or company. Property no longer qualifies. It has its own quiz.
