Digital Nomad in South Africa

The remote work visa is only for income from outside South Africa, so it does not cover work for South African employers or clients. Look at Skilled Migration for a work visa instead.

The visa is a visitor's visa with a remote work endorsement, and its holder may not take up employment in South Africa. Working locally on it breaches its conditions and puts your status and later applications at risk.

Since October 2024 work visas are scored and need 100 points. An occupation on the critical skills list scores all 100 by itself; otherwise points come from qualifications, salary, experience, your employer's trusted employer status and language.

Work visas also lead somewhere: five years on the same category plus an offer of permanent employment opens permanent residence, which a visitor's visa never does.
