The provision asks for extraordinary skills or qualifications to the Director-General's satisfaction. There are no published criteria or grant rate, but the word is doing real work, and the route sits beside the ordinary work routes rather than duplicating them.
Since October 2024 work visas need 100 points, and an occupation on the critical skills list scores all 100 by itself. Five years on the same visa category plus an offer of permanent employment then opens permanent residence.
