Digital Nomad in Thailand

The Verdict: Unlikely

Without THB 500,000 in the bank, Thailand's remote-work visas are a long shot for now. Treat the DTV as a savings target, or look at our skilled migration quiz for a Thai job, which needs no savings.

The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) needs THB 500,000 (about USD 14,000), held three months at most missions. The Long-Term Resident Work-from-Thailand Professional visa needs USD 80,000 a year and a large employer. Neither has discretion below the line.

Do not borrow the money just to sit in the account. Recently deposited funds are exactly what consular officers look for.

Working remotely on a tourist entry is a grey area, not a permitted activity.

A job with a Thai employer brings a work permit and, unlike the remote routes, can lead to permanent residence after three years. The employer must meet a capital and staffing test.
