Second Pass

Exceptional Talent in Thailand

The Verdict: Unlikely

Your income is below the threshold for Thailand's talent visa, so this route is a long shot for now. Look at our skilled migration quiz instead: an ordinary work permit has no income test.

The Long-Term Resident (LTR) Highly-Skilled Professional visa needs USD 80,000 a year over the past two years, or USD 40,000 to 79,999 with a master's or higher in science or technology. Achievement or a portfolio does not substitute for the figure.

The SMART visa's Talent category, which older guidance still describes, was withdrawn in 2025 and its applicants sent to the LTR. Anyone still offering it is working from stale material.

With an ordinary work permit, the test falls on the employer: THB 2 million of paid-up capital and four Thai staff for each foreign worker. Unlike the LTR, three years of extensions on it can lead to permanent residence.

If your income later passes one of the LTR bands, the route is open to you then.
