Retirement in Thailand

The Verdict: Need More Info

Thailand's retirement visas open at 50, so you can apply once you reach that age. To live there sooner, look at our golden visa quiz if you have capital, or our digital nomad quiz if you still earn remotely.

The age floor applies on the date you apply, on every retirement route, and money does not substitute for it.

With capital, the Long-Term Resident (LTR) Wealthy Global Citizen visa has no age limit. It needs USD 1 million in assets, with at least USD 500,000 placed in Thailand in government bonds, a Thai company or property, and it runs ten years.

If you would rather pay a fee than tie up capital, the Thailand Privilege card has no age limit either, from THB 900,000 for five years. It gives no right to work.

If you still earn remotely, the Destination Thailand Visa gives five years with up to 180 days per entry on THB 500,000 in the bank.

None of these leads to permanent residence. If that is the goal, our marriage, skilled migration and golden visa quizzes cover the routes that do.
