Thailand's Working Holiday Scheme is narrower than almost any other country's: it operates with Australia and New Zealand, and we found no arrangement with anyone else. If you hold neither nationality, this route is closed.
That is worth stating clearly because working holiday schemes are usually broad - New Zealand runs them with over forty countries - and people reasonably assume Thailand does something similar. It does not. Thai nationals have working holiday access to a number of countries; the reciprocal inbound arrangements are the two.
What is open to you regardless of nationality, and for most people it is better than a working holiday visa would have been.
The Destination Thailand Visa is the obvious one. Five years, multiple entry, 180 days per entry with one further 180-day extension available per entry, on THB 500,000 in the bank - which most missions require to have been there for three months. It covers remote work for foreign employers or foreign clients, and it has a Thai Soft Power stream for people coming to train or be treated: Muay Thai, Thai cooking, medical treatment. No age limit, no qualification requirement, no nationality restriction. Compared with twelve months on a working holiday visa, it is a considerably better proposition. Note that since 31 August 2026 applications must be filed at the Thai mission responsible for your own country of nationality or permanent residence.
If you want to work for a Thai employer, the Non-Immigrant B visa and work permit route is open to any nationality. The constraint is on the employer: THB 2 million of fully paid-up registered capital and four Thai employees for each foreign work permit, retested at every annual extension, which is why small employers cannot sponsor. That route, unlike anything else here, leads somewhere - three continuous years of extensions opens permanent residence, and five years of permanent residence opens naturalisation.
What happens next: choose by how you earn. If your income comes from outside Thailand, the Destination Thailand Visa is almost certainly your route and it is worth reading properly. If you want a Thai job, the employer's size is the thing to establish before anything else.
