Citizenship by Descent in Turkey

The Verdict: Not eligible

Citizenship by descent needs a parent or ancestor who held Turkish citizenship, so Turkic or Turkish ethnic roots alone do not give you a claim; the route to look at is immigrant status.

Article 7 of the Turkish Citizenship Law follows citizenship, not ethnicity.

Turkey's Settlement Law (Law 5543) lets people of Turkish descent and culture, for example from the Balkans, the Caucasus or Central Asia, be accepted as immigrants and then naturalised by Presidential decision. It is discretionary and the criteria are not published. Our diaspora quiz explains how to apply.
