Working in Costa Rica needs a category that permits it. Article 79.3 of the migration law covers executives, managers and technical staff of a company established there, at a salary at least 25% above the legal minimum for the post; Article 79.5 covers scientists and specialised professionals.
Under Article 80 a temporary resident may do only the paid work the immigration department has authorised, so get the permission to match the work before you start it.
