Portugal passes nationality to the child of a Portuguese parent wherever the child is born — but the parent has to have been Portuguese when you were born. There is an exception worth knowing: if a parent later claims Portuguese nationality by origin, through their own parent or grandparent, that counts from their birth and can open your claim even now. Where your parent was born matters too, because many people born in territories Portugal governed lost the nationality in 1975.
