Which is the closest person in your direct line who was a Portuguese citizen?
Portugal — Citizenship by Descent
Your direct line means you, your parents, their parents, and so on back — not aunts, uncles or cousins, and not a spouse's family. If more than one line goes back to Portugal, pick the closest one; the others can be looked at separately. "Was Portuguese" and "came from Portugal" are different things, and the difference decides the answer, so if you are not certain that someone actually held the nationality, say so. If your connection to Portugal is Sephardic ancestry rather than an ancestor who held the nationality, there is an answer for that too — it is a different route and it changed in 2026.
A parent → A grandparent → A great-grandparent, or further back → I was born in Portugal myself, to foreign parents → My connection is Sephardic Jewish ancestry rather than a Portuguese ancestor → I'm not sure whether any of them actually held Portuguese nationality → Nobody in my direct line was Portuguese →
