Where would your money come from while you lived in Portugal?
Portugal — Digital Nomad
Two routes sit behind this question, and they are assessed quite differently. If you work, the test is that the people paying you are outside Portugal. If you do not work, Portugal has a separate visa for people living on their own income — a pension, rent, investments — which is assessed against the minimum wage instead. Both lead to the same residence permit.
I'm employed by a company based outside Portugal → I'm self-employed, with clients based outside Portugal → I'm employed by a Portuguese company → A mix — some clients in Portugal, some abroad → I'd live on my own income — a pension, rent, investments or savings → I have no income yet — I'd look for work after moving → I'm not sure which of these describes me →
