The remote-work route is not the one for you — but that is because a better one applies, not because you are stuck.
The remote-work visa is written for work performed for people or companies domiciled outside Portugal. Working remotely for a Portuguese employer, from Portugal, is simply employment in Portugal, and it goes through the ordinary work routes: a residence visa on the strength of your contract or promise of a contract, and then a residence permit.
That is generally a better position than the remote-work one. Your employer is already in Portugal and can support the application; the permit is not tied to proving income from abroad; and you can change employer later by notifying the immigration authority rather than starting again.
If the role is highly qualified and the salary is at or above one and a half times the national average gross salary — or one and a fifth in shortage occupations — there is a faster track, and the EU Blue Card sits alongside it with the advantage of mobility to other member states later.
One thing to sort out before applying: the contract has to be real and registered, with social security enrolment, because the permit is granted on those documents rather than on a letter of intent.
