Naturalisation is not open to you as things stand, and the route that used to bridge this gap has been closed.
Portuguese nationality by residence counts only time spent with your situation regularised — under a visa, a permit or another authorisation. Time in Portugal without one does not count, however long it has been and however settled your life here is.
Until 2024 there was a way through: the *manifestação de interesse*, which let someone already in Portugal and working here regularise from the inside. It was repealed, and the CPLP route was tightened in the same direction — a CPLP residence permit now assumes you obtained a consular visa before arriving.
What is left is genuinely narrower. The ordinary route is to obtain the right visa from a Portuguese consulate, which usually means leaving and applying from outside. There are still limited exceptional regimes, and asylum or humanitarian protection is a separate system with its own rules — both are worth taking proper advice on rather than acting on general information.
One thing worth checking before anything else: whether you have a claim that does not depend on residence at all. A Portuguese parent or grandparent, or three years of marriage to a Portuguese citizen, are routes that work regardless of your immigration status here.
